meet wavepin.

a flexible, unstoppable, artist-run music database

What is it?

Wavepin (formerly known as IMDS) is a standard way of organizing music and metadata and storing it on the IPFS network enabling artists to securely store their music, share their music, and hold a record proving it's their work. Wavepin is not run by anyone and won't go away unless the IPFS network shuts down (this is effectively impossible. Want to know more about ipfs? See ipfs.eth). Wavepin is also not owned or ran by any particular person and is available for anyone to use!

How does it work?

When music is stored with Wavepin, audio files and artwork files are stored directly on the IPFS network and metadata takes the form of simple formatted text files which are also stored directly on the IPFS network. An album would be represented as one of these text files which references tracks as other text files which reference audio files, artwork etc. Artists can also register an ENS domain and point it to their discography to have timestamped proof of their work. Here is a basic diagram of an album/playlist with some cover artwork and three songs each having their own artwork. Keep in mind that each item besides the images/audio files are text files. Clients and Apps

Wavepin is just a standard and not an app or service. However, here is a list of software that can interact with Wavepin content!

wavepin.app

A fully fledged web streamer meant to replace things like SoundCloud or Spotify.

That's all...

Wavepin was created by Luke Branson but is of course free and open for anyone to use!
